IP TV

I just watched my first episode of a real IP television show. It's at systm.org and it's a couple of the past screensavers guys. They showed a mod of an ip video camera snooper. It was good but not nearly long enough. Times are changing. I reserved several domain names with the .tv extension because there is no doubt in my mind that things are going that way.

boatchannel.tv
flightchannel.tv
spanishchannel.tv
techchannel.tv
gardeningchannel.tv

I think that these names coupled with Broadcast Machine could be a pretty powerful combination.

Also, it looks as if Pace Technologies just announced their H.264 IP TV set top box. This basically allows for full resolution NTSC at just under 1Mbps per second. Pretty cool.

Nuclear option defused

Well,

It looks like Frist lost his battle to kill the filibuster. It also looks like McCain led the fight! I read a great article on salon.com that suggests this might be forshadowing the battle between McCain and Frist for the Republican nomination. I wonder who the evangelicals would vote for if nether candidate professed to be a born-again Christian! I like where this is going.

I'm disappointed in Frist. Interestingly, I know some of his relatives on a personal level and honestly like them as people but am very disturbed by the way he seems to push his morality on others. The last thing the U.S. needs to do is push morality. We have no track record in this area and most of the world knows it. I'm not religious but I know that Jesus led by example not by peer pressure. It's completely hypocritical for evangelical Christians to support a President who supports war. Jesus never endorsed nor supported war.

Looks like there's a great new codec out for MP4. We finally have a significant leap forward in video compression technology!

This is the best general purpose podcast explanation I've seen.

Tech minds in Nashville

Over the last few days, I've been accumulating some great new contacts for tech people in Nashville. These are people who own or have owned Internet related businesses. Just had a good talk with Jeff Carneal who owned Apex Internet in KY before selling it in Early 2000. Also, ran across Chris McIntyre, who moved to Nashville from Chicago and runs Podcast Alley, a podcast directory and ratings engine. Hopefully, we can all get together for lunch to brainstorm some ideas.

Children at the Adult book store

Funny, these kids vandalized an adult book store and the parents are commenting on their concerns regarding the impact of the book store in the area. Just another example of how violence gets the rubber stamp but sex is taboo. Ignorance is bliss.
