Separation

Pat Robertson is truly over the deep end. Jimmy Carter has written a new book touching on some of the brewing dangers regarding the intertwining of church and state. I'll never understand why these people want religion *in* our governmental structure. There is a textbook case of this philosophy in action: The Middle East. As long as there are competing idealogies, there must be a neutral government that is open to all...otherwise all you have is chaos. As I read the news lately, I find myself anxiously awaiting the rapture so we can get past this nonsense.

A good reason not to buy Sony/BMG CDs

But let's not stop there. It's a great reason to not purchase CD's at all. The Digital Rights Management schemes have gone too far. I'm even fed up with Apple's iTunes DRM. I'll purchase non DRM'd songs even if it is a bit less convenient. Here's the story on Sony:

Sungard/Inflow (not so) carrier neutral

Recently a prospect contacted me to let me know that they were being released from their contract (evicted) at the Sungard colo facility in Nashville. They were paying for rack space and purchasing bandwidth directly from another fiber carrier instead of from Sungard. Apparently, Sungard felt that they were being unfairly shortchanged by only getting revenue for the rack space. At $600 per Mbps, I'd have to say that Sungard's bandwidth must have platinum-plated packets. The customer has about 90 days to find a new home. I supplied a quote and am hoping for the best. Maybe Sungard should consider some sort of package deal such as 'Purchase bandwidth from us and we'll throw the rack space in for free', or 'Pay full price and we'll give you matching his and her Rolex watches'.
