So, History really does repeat itself. Now, the question is, can politicians stand up for themselves or are they all spineless wonders.
However, on religious issures there can be little or no compromise.
There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious
beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than
Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being.
But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf
should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing
throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom.
They are trying to force government leaders into following their position
100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a
particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of
money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political
preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be
a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C," and "D." Just who do
they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the
right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as
a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who
thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll
call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every
step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all
Americans in the name of "conservatism."
- Senator Barry Goldwater, from the Congressional Record, September 16, 1981

Interesting Article. I have noticed that some of your postings have a decided anti-Christian stance. Are you an anti-Christian?

I do not believe in any of the miracles performed by Jesus, but I do, of course, acknowledge that he lived on the earth. I also believe that his base teachings are good for society as a whole. Now if people would just follow his teachings instead of twisting then to their own agenda, we might have something.
I'm not sure if that makes me anti-Christian or not, but I'd imagine there are some Christians who have opinion on that.
I understand. Of course I agree that Jesus' teachings would be good for the earth. However, many people credit Jesus as being a great moral teacher. But they overlook the fact that He said He was the son of God. That does not sound like a great teacher. Unless it is true. So Jesus really requires that you view Him as either: Liar; Lunitic or Son of God. So it's hard to pick and choose what teachings people like and what they don't like. He either has to be accepted or rejected.
By the way. Your statement about people twisting Jesus to meet their agenda is interesting. For argument sake (no offense) you did the same thing in your statement. You twisted Jesus to fit your agenda and worldview. You have shaped Him the way you want to see Him. Is that right?
